Decks
Portland Custom Carpentry would be pleased to hear from you about upcoming decking projects.
We are happy to discuss the pros and cons of working with several different types of materials and would love to hear what kind of unique ideas and accents you want added to your deck. Here's a few options to get you started:
1. Cedar: This is the most common and most traditional choice in the pacific northwest. Cedar decks with a nice oiled finish will look beautiful for years to come while also being a reasonably priced option!
2. Juniper: Did you know that we have an extremely sustainable option to us that comes from a small business here in Portland? Juniper is considered a "hard" softwood and can last up to 50 years with proper maintenance. The woodgrain and heart to sapwood contrasts are stunning and worth a look!
3. Hardwoods: There are many hardwood options that are the longest lasting, and best performing materials on the market! They come with a slightly higher price tag but are well worth the cost!
4. Trex: Composites are a fast growing market in the Pacific NW due to their low maintenance and they typically come with a 25 year guarantee from manufacturers on materials. While we've built many composite decks we now shy away from them for a variety of reasons. Still have your heart set on a composite deck? Let us know and we'll discuss options.
If you're torn between composite and wood you might also like to know that the National Association of Realtors Research Department has listed WOOD decks and outdoor patios as two of the best outdoor upgrades to your home. They both add appeal and value to the home!
